About Fira de Barcelona Gran Via

Fira de Barcelona Gran Via opened in 2007 as the modern counterpart to the historic Montjuic site. Designed by Japanese architect Toyo Ito, the 240,000 m complex spans eight pavilions linked by an undulating glass and steel canopy that has become an architectural landmark in LHospitalet de Llobregat. Together with Montjuic, Fira de Barcelona handles 30,000 exhibitors and 2.5 million visitors per year.

The hall portfolio

Pavilions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 form the main exhibition complex along a 1.2 km central spine. Pavilions 1, 2 and 3 are the largest single-volume halls with column-free clearance of 13 m and floor loads up to 5,000 kg/m - the technical envelope that made MWC and ISE possible to relocate here. Pavilion 8 hosts the largest stage areas for conference programming. Outdoor areas between pavilions are used for vehicle displays at SIL (logistics) and Automobile Barcelona.

Signature fairs

MWC Barcelona (annual February-March) is the worlds largest mobile and connectivity trade fair, drawing 2,400 exhibitors and 101,000 visitors. ISE (Integrated Systems Europe, annual February) is the worlds largest AV-systems trade fair with 1,400 exhibitors and 75,000 visitors. Smartcity Expo (annual November), Alimentaria (biennial), Hostelco, SIL (logistics) and HISPACK round out a calendar that runs 250+ days per year.

Logistics for exhibitors

The venue has its own metro stop (Europa Fira, L9 Sud, 20 minutes from El Prat airport via the same line) and a dedicated freight access ring. Schenker serves as the official forwarder. El Prat Airport is 12 minutes by taxi to Gran Via - notably the closest major airport to a tier-1 exhibition venue in Europe.

Working at Fira Gran Via

Catalan business culture is bilingual (Catalan and Spanish, English widely spoken at Fira), informal in tone, and notably more punctual than the rest of Spain. Build-up typically opens four days before a show. MWC week routinely sees room rates exceeding 600 euro per night in LHospitalet, Plaza Espanya and the Eixample.
