About Anuga 2027

Anuga is the largest and most important trade fair for the global food and beverage industry. Held every two years in October at Koelnmesse, the five-day event brings roughly 7,500 exhibitors from 110+ countries and 140,000 trade visitors from 200+ countries to Cologne.

Industry context

Anuga was founded in 1919 in Stuttgart and moved to Cologne in 1924. It is organised by Koelnmesse and the food industry trade body BVE (Bundesvereinigung der Deutschen Ernahrungsindustrie). The fair is structured as ten parallel "trade shows under one roof" - Anuga Fine Food, Anuga Frozen Food, Anuga Meat, Anuga Chilled & Fresh Food, Anuga Dairy, Anuga Bread & Bakery, Anuga Drinks, Anuga Organic, Anuga Hot Beverages, and Anuga Culinary Concepts - each occupying dedicated halls.

Exhibitor profile

Roughly 90 percent of exhibitors come from outside Germany, with very heavy participation from Italy, Spain, France, Turkey, the Netherlands, the US, Brazil and increasingly Vietnam, Thailand and across Africa. Country pavilions (often government-organised) are a defining feature - some occupying 1,500-3,000 m of single-country space. Anuga is the most internationally diverse trade fair in Europe by exhibitor passport mix.

Visitor demographics

Approximately 80 percent of visitors come from outside Germany. Visitor titles are heavily skewed toward retail buying directors, food-service procurement, import/distribution, hospitality groups, and food-industry investors. The fairs visitor "internationality index" (the share of visitors from outside the host country) is consistently the highest of any major European trade fair.

What makes the stand build different here

Anuga stands prioritise sampling, tasting and storage. Refrigeration is mission-critical: most exhibitors install full chilled-display cases and walk-in cold rooms on the stand, which requires advance coordination of 3-phase power and water/drain connections. The hall environment can hit 28-30C with the visitor crush, so stand HVAC matters more than at most fairs. The "Taste Innovation Show" hall is the design centrepiece each edition.
